Protecting your privacy is sometimes a hassle. But luckily, there are ways around that. One of these ways is to create self-destructing messages; there are numerous apps and programs which can do this, but the problem with these solutions is that they’re not exactly user-friendly. This article will take you through how to make a Self-Destructing Message using one of the simplest methods available.
Obtain An Email Account With A Self-Destructing Text File Attachment
The first thing that you need to do is obtain an email address with a self-destructing file attachment. This can be done by forwarding your emails to another account, from which you’ll use to send the private note messages from. The reason for this is so that you have control over the “from” address, and the sender of the file will be the one emailing it so nobody will know who sent it to them unless they ask for it, and even if they do ask for it, you won’t have to worry about giving out your identity.
Set Up OpenVPN On Your Computer
The next step is to set up OpenVPN on your computer. For this you’ll need to download and install the program yourself, then follow these instructions for setting it up. There are two versions of OpenVPN, one is free and the other one has a price tag, but the idea is that you get both of the programs and create an account with a VPN service provider. Once that’s done, to create a connection profile go to “File -> Profiles -> Add / Edit -> Tunnelblick Connection Profile”.
Choose a profile name, then choose the “Protocol” as “UDP” and for the Server Hostname type in the IP address of your VPN provider. Save this profile by clicking on the “Save” button at the bottom right of Tunnelblick.
Next you’ll need to start the OpenVPN connection itself. For this, go to “Tunnelblick -> VPN -> iOS Settings”. Click on the OpenVPN tab, then click on the “Connect” button at the bottom left of Tunnelblick. If the connection doesn’t sync, go to “Tunnelblick -> VPN -> iOS Settings” and click the “Refresh” button at the bottom right of Tunnelblick.
Create A Self-Destructing Message
To create a self-destructing message simply use a text editor like TextEdit or Prose (learn more about these programs here) and write your message in as normal text.
When you’re done, save this file outside of where you’ve saved your other files on your computer because we won’t be able to reference it from there unless we have access to its location in the directory.
Save This File As A .Txt File
Now use the Finder’s “Get Info” option to get the full path to this text file from wherever it is you saved it, then click on “File -> Get Info” in Tunnelblick and click on “Details” in the bottom right of Tunnelblick. As you can see, the file path is listed in a text box. Copy this text, then go back to OpenVPN and click the “Save” button at the bottom left of Tunnelblick.
